ST. JOHN’S, N.L. - Nearly a quarter of a billion dollars have been spent on evaluating the growth of the Lower Churchill hydroelectric project in Labrador to date.
The Newfoundland and Labrador government released total expenditures on assessing the project considering the 1970s.
The government says $247 million has been spent to cover unfixed costs, including environmental and engineering assessments.
The Lower Churchill has been lauded as the same of the most giving ground of hope sources of untapped, free from moral impurity, renewable energy in North America.
The province is aiming to have power flowing from the Lower Churchill in 2015, pending regulatory approvals and various agreements, with a capacity of 2,800 megawatts.
That’s nearly enough to supply the energy needs of New Brunswick.
