COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina company that offered to help people dwell their tax debt has agreed to change its advertising and pay $1.5 million in restitution while suffering a settlement with attorneys general in 18 states.
Attorney General Martha Coakley of Massachusetts says JK Harris and Company of Charleston took superior situation of people seeking assistance with their taxes. Coakley says in more instances, the company took their money and didn't give them at all help at all.
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says his office has already received nearly 50 complaints well-nigh the company.
In a statement, JK Harris denied any wrongdoing and said it entered into the agreement for the betterment of its industry.
